Why is John Nuts About Email:
We exist in an increasingly competitive global economy. Think about the fact that when you call that 800 number to book a hotel, you are talking to a person in the Philippines. In order to provide the top notch service that we (and hopefully you) insist on yet at a reasonable fee, we must keep our costs down.
Not having a dedicated receptionist to answer phone calls and try to track me down, saves expensive overhead.
By using email, we can communicate effectively with our clients without the requirement that we be sitting down together at the same time. You can email me at 10:00 at night and I can answer you at 5:00 in the morning. The inefficient waste of time playing phone tag is eliminated.
With email you have the opportunity to read the answer, look over the answer, and keep the answer for future reference. How many times might a person sort of nod their head in a phone conversation and at the end of the discussion not really understand the matter that they nodded to?
This is not to say that John will not talk on the phone. John talks on the phone so much that he has a wireless hands free headset so that he does not end up with a stiff neck or a sore back. John actually prefers to discuss certain matters over the telephone or in person, and often uses email to schedule a phone appointment.In addition, we can attach schedules, pdf's of documents and links to internet spots with email.
Email is one of the ways in which the accounting profession has changed with the technological advances all around us. Don't fight it but embrace it!
